Taking the pulse of the coastal ocean
Stanford's Integrative Project, "Taking the Pulse of the Coastal Ocean," includes partnerships with government, NGOs, and researchers to build an Accessible, Affordable, Actionable coastal observing system addressing ecosystem change and declining ocean monitoring funding. Using innovative technologies and community co-creation, the project will integrate data on fisheries, oceanography, marine mammals, and kelp ecosystems to improve forecasting, management, and restoration in central California. Over five years the project will pilot observing and forecasting platforms and tools to sustain kelp forests, marine mammal populations and fisheries; by 2035 it aims to deliver a globally transferable model for coastal monitoring and climate adaptation.
